Ahmet Çalık — Biography
Ahmet Yılmaz Çalık (26 February 1994 – 11 January 2022) was a Turkish international footballer who played as a centre-back. Born in the Yenimahalle district of Ankara, he began his professional career at Gençlerbirliği before moving to Galatasaray, and spent his final seasons at Konyaspor. He was capped by the Turkey national team between 2015 and 2017 and was part of the squad at UEFA Euro 2016. He stood 1.84 m tall.
Çalık died on 11 January 2022 at the age of 27 in a road traffic accident in the Ankara area. His death was met with widespread grief in Turkish football, and he is commemorated each year on the anniversary by his former clubs and by the Turkish Football Federation, with the Turkish press remembering him as a gentleman of the game. An indoor sports hall in Konya has been named in his honour, and memorial tournaments and charitable campaigns continue to be organised in his name.
