Antonis Fotsis — Biography
Antonis Fotsis (Greek: Αντώνης Φώτσης; also spelled Andonis or Adonis Fotsis; born 1 April 1981 in Athens) is a retired Greek professional basketball player standing 2.09 metres tall. Usually deployed as a power forward and occasionally as a center, he was known by the nickname "Batman". He began his career in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies, becoming the first Greek-born player to appear in the league in 2001, and later played for Real Madrid and Olimpia Milano before spending the bulk of his career with Panathinaikos, where he won three EuroLeague titles and ten Greek championships.
Fotsis captained the Greek national team for several years, helping it win the 2005 EuroBasket title, finish runner-up at the 2006 World Championship, take bronze at EuroBasket 2009, and place fifth at both the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. He retired at the end of the 2016-17 season and was inducted into the Greek Basket League Hall of Fame in 2022.
Fotsis, whose mother is an ethnic Greek from the island of Heybeliada, also acquired Turkish citizenship in 2016.
