Atilla Taş — Biography

Atilla Taş was born in February 1975 in the Ceyhan district near Adana; when his mother left to work in Germany not long afterward, he grew up mainly in his grandmother's household. His early schooling took place in Ceyhan, secondary education began in Istanbul, and his family later resettled in Mersin. After completing his military service he went back to Istanbul to pursue music and struggled financially for a period. Meeting producer Erol Köse proved decisive: a track from his debut record, released in 1998, made him a household name almost overnight and earned him a prize as the year's top breakthrough male artist. He went on to record further albums while also hosting his own entertainment shows, writing a newspaper column, and publishing two books. After 2016 he spent time in detention and on trial in a case tied to media allegations; years later a European court found that his core rights had been violated. In 2026 he returned to headlines with pointed remarks about his former producer and about a charity organization under investigation.
