Ayşe Arman — Biography
Ayşe Arman was born on 9 December 1969 in Adana. Her father, businessman Mehmet Kutman Arman, met her mother, a German-born former ballerina named Veronika Passler, while he was a university student in Switzerland; the couple married and settled in Adana. The middle child of three siblings, Arman attended Tarsus American High School and enrolled to study communications at Istanbul University, but left her studies at eighteen to work for Nokta magazine, only finishing her degree in 2015 under an amnesty programme.
After stints at Nokta, Aktüel, Tempo, Marie Claire and Yeni Yüzyıl, she joined Hürriyet, where she wrote a long-running column before announcing her departure in November 2019. She built her reputation on extensive Sunday interviews with well-known figures, and became known both for her frank writing on relationships between men and women and for her outspoken support of LGBT rights. She has authored books including Kimse Okumazsa Ben Okurum and Kimse Sormazsa Ben Sorarım, and received a journalism award from Cumhuriyet newspaper in 1989.
Arman also took a supporting acting role in the 2011 film Aşk Tesadüfleri Sever. She continues to reach readers through her own website and social media, and lives with her husband Ömer Dormen and their daughter Alya.
