Aysun Kayacı

Aysun Kayacı — Biography

Aysun Kayacı was known in the 2000s in Turkey as a model, actress and television presenter, and for years her name was caught up in controversy over remarks she made on a live broadcast in 2008. After her marriage in 2012 she largely withdrew from public life.

She began modelling at fifteen as a hostess at trade fairs. In 1997 she came third in the Elite Model Look contest, and in 2004 she was named Model of the Year at the MGD Golden Lens Awards. A Pepsi commercial shot in 2007 made her nationally famous. In those years she also turned to acting: she appeared in the series Zehirli Çiçek, Çat Kapı, Doktorlar and Sessiz Gemiler, and played a singer in the film Kısık Ateşte 15 Dakika and Aysel in Şeytanın Pabucu. Later she focused on presenting, hosting Haydi Gel Bizimle Ol on NTV and, with Haldun Dormen, a song contest. In 2009 she graduated from the history department at Yeditepe University.

On 27 March 2008, on Haydi Gel Bizimle Ol, she questioned why her vote should be equal to that of a "shepherd on the mountain" who pays no taxes; the remark drew wide criticism and a criminal complaint was filed against her. In 2021 she said she had been twenty when she said it and had regretted it immediately. She lives in London with her family.
