Azer Bülbül — Biography
Born Subutay Kesgin on February 1, 1967, in the Arpaçay district of Kars, Azer Bülbül was a Turkish artist of Azerbaijani heritage who worked across arabesk, fantezi and Turkish folk music. Beyond performing, he also wrote lyrics and composed many of his own songs, and occasionally appeared as an actor.
He first built a following among the Turkish community in Germany during the 1980s before achieving nationwide fame in Turkey through the 1990s. His stage persona earned him nicknames such as "the Trembling Artist" and "the Trembling King" among fans.
He died of a heart attack in a hotel in Antalya on January 6, 2012, at the age of 44. His songs have remained widely loved since then, frequently covered by other performers and still played at weddings and marriage proposals, keeping his music present in Turkish popular culture.
