Aziz Bekir — Biography

Also known by his birth name Adis Bećiragić, Aziz Bekir was born on 18 June 1970 in Sarajevo and was one of the key players of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national basketball team during the 1990s. He retired as a player in 2000, and took Turkish citizenship - adopting the name he is known by today - during his playing years in Turkey.

After his playing career, Bekir moved into coaching, serving as head coach of Torku Konyaspor from 2013 to 2016 and of Uşak Sportif in the 2017-18 season. He took charge of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team in 2022, during which he spoke publicly about the financial constraints facing the squad, before resigning from the position in October 2025 citing health issues linked to stress.
