Berkay Şahin — Biography

Berkay Şahin, known professionally as Berkay, was born on 29 December 1981 in Ankara and is of Laz descent from the Artvin region. As a young man he lived with his mother in İzmir from 1996 until 2009, when he moved to Istanbul, and before releasing an album he performed on stage in resort towns such as Bodrum, Antalya, Çeşme and Kuşadası.

He launched his professional career in 2010 with his debut studio album Ele İnat, which was well received by listeners. In the years that followed he continued to release music, including the singles Sadece Aşk (2012) and Doksana Bir Kala (2013), the albums Aşk Melekleri (2014) and Arabest (2016), and the singles Benim Hikayem (2015) and Uygun Adım (2016).

A 2018 altercation with footballer Arda Turan drew widespread media attention. After a seven-year break, Berkay returned to listeners in the summer of 2026 with his new album Kavi, and around the same time announced that he and his wife Özlem were expecting a child.
