Burak Bilgin was born on 19 July 1992 in Darmstadt, Germany, and is recognized as a German footballer of Turkish heritage, holding dual citizenship of both countries.
He built much of his career with his hometown club, SV Darmstadt 98, coming through the ranks before breaking into the senior side. His professional debut came in the 3. Liga in November 2011, when he was brought on as a substitute for Oliver Heil during a 4–0 victory over Carl Zeiss Jena.
