Burcu Uyar — Biography
Burcu Uyar, born Serenad Uyar on 15 February 1978 in İnegöl, is a Turkish soprano who has built her career largely on European stages. After vocal training in Turkey, she went on to perform with companies such as the Israeli Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin, and has appeared at venues including La Scala, the Mariinsky Theatre, and opera houses in İzmir, Nantes, Dijon, Düsseldorf, Mannheim, Padova and Marseille.
Her repertoire spans coloratura and lyric roles, including the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte, Olympia in Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Gilda in Rigoletto and the title role in Manon. In 2018 she sang Violetta in La Traviata at the International Istanbul Opera Festival and took part in a performance marking the tenth anniversary of soprano Leyla Gencer's death.
Uyar also lent her coloratura voice to "İnsan İnsan," a Fazıl Say composition based on a poem by the Alevi poet Muhyiddin Abdal, a piece that later gained wider recognition after being featured in the television series Fi.
