Çetin Sarıkartal — Biography

Born Çetin Kemal Sarıkartal on 26 June 1959 in Ankara, he is a versatile figure who combines an academic career with theatre directing and writing alongside acting. He graduated from the English Language and Literature department of Ankara University's Faculty of Language, History and Geography in 1980, earned a master's degree in art history from Hacettepe University, and completed a doctorate in art theory at Bilkent University. After lecturing at Bilkent, he held a faculty position and headed a department at Bahçeşehir University, and now holds the title of professor while chairing the Theatre Department of Kadir Has University's Faculty of Art and Design.

He first appeared on screen in the 2009 film 7 Kocalı Hürmüz as the character Günter Paşa, for which he also served as acting coach. He is best known to wide audiences for playing Paşa in the series Çukur from 2017 to 2021; in 2021 he left that production to join the cast of Eşkıya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz, taking on the role of Demir. Around the same period he also appeared in the series Bir Gece Ansızın, played the character Kemal in the 2019 film Bilmemek, and took the role of Volkan Kocatürk in the series Azize the same year.

Also active in theatre as a director, dramaturg, translator and writer, Sarıkartal has worked on plays including Vahşet Tanrısı, Yanlış Anlama, Hakiki Gala and Ara; in 2022 he joined the cast of Altay, a superhero-themed TRT Dijital production, playing the character Korel and appearing before audiences in a different genre.
