Davut Güloğlu — Biography
Davut Güloğlu was born in 1972 in the village of Yenigüzel, Rize, the seventh of eleven children of a clerk father and a homemaker mother. He lost both parents in his early teens and left imam-hatip high school without finishing. In 1991 he moved to Istanbul, where he ran a small shop for a time; there he took music lessons from Arif Sağ and began writing songs, later singing in wedding halls and restaurants once the shop closed.
His 1998 debut album drew little attention, but the 2001 record that followed, blending Black Sea melodies with techno-pop, reached a mass audience through its track "Nurcanım." A 2003 album broke his own sales record and earned him the nickname "the Ricky Martin of the Black Sea." He tried acting in a television series in 2006 and co-hosted a morning show with Ece Erken in 2011. Alongside a steady stream of singles, he entered politics in the 2024 local elections as the Yeniden Refah Partisi's mayoral candidate for Düzce, and became a grandfather in the summer of 2026 with the birth of his granddaughter Mihra.
