Davut Güloğlu — Biography

Davut Güloğlu is a singer who reached a wide audience in the early 2000s with a sound that blends eastern Black Sea melodies with techno and pop. The song that made his name is Nurcanım, and he came to be called "the Ricky Martin of the Black Sea". He still releases new singles and videos, and is also known for his involvement in politics.

He grew up in the village of Yenigüzel in Rize, in a family of eleven children; he lost both parents in his early teens, left imam-hatip high school unfinished and played six years of football for amateur clubs in Rize. In 1991 he moved to Istanbul, ran a market for a while and began composing after attending Arif Sağ's courses. When the shop closed he began singing in wedding halls and restaurants. He later said that his 1998 debut album failed to reflect him; the real breakthrough came in January 2001 with the album Nurcanım. In 2003 Katula Katula broke his own sales record and was also heard in Turkish communities across Europe. He kept going with Dur Orda Dur, Çat Çat, Kapak Olsun and Kopalım Bari, and Hayat Devam Ediyor (2018) arrived after a long gap.

On television he shared the lead with Hande Ataizi in the 2006 series Sev Kardeşim and in 2011 co-hosted a morning programme with Ece Erken. He became an adviser to the Yeniden Refah Party and ran as its Düzce mayoral candidate in the 2024 local elections. He became a grandfather in the summer of 2026.
