Emre Can — Biography

Born on 12 January 1994 in Frankfurt, Emre Can is a German footballer of Turkish descent who typically operates as a defensive midfielder or centre-back. He came through the Bayern Munich academy, mostly appearing for the club's reserve side, before moving on to Bayer Leverkusen in 2013. A season later Liverpool signed him for £9.75 million, where he racked up more than 150 appearances across all competitions before joining Juventus in 2018. In 2020 he switched to Borussia Dortmund, first on loan and then on a permanent deal, and in time was named the club's captain.

Can rose through every German youth level from U15 to U21, featuring at the 2015 U21 European Championship, and made his senior international debut in September 2015. He was picked for the 2016 European Championship squad, and a year later helped Germany lift the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, scoring his first senior international goal during that tournament. Although injury cut his 2025-26 season short, he stayed with Dortmund and put pen to paper on a new contract with the club in 2026, securing his future there.
