Emre Güngör — Biography

Emre Güngör (Fehmi Emre Güngör) is a former Turkey international centre-back who played for Galatasaray in their 2007-08 title season and was in the Turkey squad that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2008. He spent his entire 16-year professional career in Turkey and ended it at Bandırmaspor.

He started at 11 in the youth system of Bakırköyspor and attracted Süper Lig attention at 17. His first move was to MKE Ankaragücü: after a season and a half he was loaned to Türk Telekom, then came back for four more Süper Lig seasons and captained the side in his last two. He joined Galatasaray in the 2007-08 winter window and, with Rigobert Song away at the Africa Cup of Nations, got his chance and settled into the defence quickly. The league title and the Süper Kupa both came that season. In June 2010 he moved to Gaziantepspor, where he played 26 games and scored once in his first season, then captained the side in 2011-12 and featured in four Europa League matches. Spells at Antalyaspor (2012), Kardemir Karabükspor (2014) and Eskişehirspor (2015) followed; he left Eskişehirspor in June 2016 after a dispute with the board over money, then signed a one-year deal with Bandırmaspor.

He was called up 61 times in total across Turkey's national teams at various age levels. His first goal for the senior side came on 3 March 2010 in a friendly against Honduras, from an assist by Arda Turan.
