Ezhel — Biography

Ezhel, born Ömer Sercan İpekçioğlu on 1 July 1991 in Çankaya, Ankara, is a Turkish rapper, singer and songwriter whose music blends trap, hip hop and reggae. He began recording under the names CJ, Ice and Ais Ezhel before settling on the stage name Ezhel. As part of the Yeşil Oda collective he drew attention with the song "Sekiz," followed by tracks such as "Rastafaray," "3 Gün" and the Sansar Salvo duet "Gerçek Sandım."

His 2017 debut studio album, Müptezhel, marked the height of his early career. He was detained in May 2018, and following campaigns of support from fellow musicians and civil society groups, was acquitted the following month. His song "AYA" has been streamed more than 80 million times on Spotify, and Hip Hop Life gave him the title "Freestyle King."

Now based mainly in Berlin, Ezhel was acquitted at the first hearing of a 2026 indictment brought against him in Turkey, and released a new single, "Başa Bela," around the same period.
