Feridun Karakaya — Biography
Feridun Karakaya (1928, Istanbul – 24 April 2004, Istanbul) was a Turkish stage and film actor, remembered as one of the most popular comedy stars of Turkish cinema. A graduate of Kabataş Boys High School, he began his professional career in 1944 at the Istanbul City Theatre in a production of Julius Caesar.
His small part as the shoeshine boy "Cilalı İbo" in Osman Seden's film Berduş (1957), starring Zeki Müren, made him famous overnight. The character became his trademark and headlined a whole film series, including Cilalı İbo İstanbul Kaldırımlarında (1968), Cilalı İbo Almanya'da (1970), Cilalı İbo Teksas Fatihi (1971) and Cilalı İbo Yetimler Meleği (1971). He also appeared in films such as Gönül Kimi Severse (1959) and Aman Karım Duymasın (1976) and in the TV series Perihan Abla (1986). He was awarded the Legion of Honour. His son Cem Karakaya is also an actor.
