Filiz Taçbaş — Biography

Filiz Taçbaş is an actress who has run an acting career, begun in childhood, alongside tennis at national-team level, and she is best known in Turkey for long-running series such as Mahallenin Muhtarları and Arka Sokaklar. Today she works the land in Aliağa while commuting to Istanbul sets to keep acting.

She first appeared on camera at ten in Bilge Olgaç's Bacım. In 1981 she won first place in the "Fresh Faces" contest run by the children's magazine Saklambaç, and on stage she worked in Abdullah Şahin's theatre company. After a long break she appeared with Adile Naşit in Aile Pansiyonu in 1987. Her real breakthrough came with Mahallenin Muhtarları, which began in 1992, in which she played Behiye until 2002. She then played the teacher Ayla Soylu in Arka Sokaklar, followed by Ah Neriman, Bütün Çocuklarım, Koçum Benim, Eve Dönüş and Çukur, which she joined in 2020 as Süreyya; in 2019 she was Zehra in Vuslat and Nihal in Şimdiki Aklım Olsaydı.

She played tennis professionally, did well in the 2007 national-team qualifiers, wore the national jersey and has written newspaper columns on tennis. In early 2020 she settled in Aliağa, obtained a farming certificate and began growing olives and lemons. In 2023 she became a candidate for the CHP nomination for an İzmir parliamentary seat. She married tennis coach Cahit Yavuz in 2000 and has a daughter; the couple divorced in 2011.
