Furkan Özçal — Biography

Furkan Özçal (born 3 September 1990 in Munich) is a German-born Turkish former footballer. He holds both German and Turkish nationality, is listed at 1.70 m, and played as an attacking midfielder.

Although he was raised in Germany, he opted to represent Turkey, summarising the decision in a 2009 interview with the line that he had "ended his German career for Turkey". He went on to appear for Turkey's under-17, under-19 and under-21 sides.

At club level he joined Galatasaray in September 2012 and subsequently played for Kardemir Karabükspor, for Kayserispor from 2015 and for Bursaspor from the summer of 2016. A contractual payment dispute with Bursaspor led to an attachment order against the club in 2019 and drew considerable press coverage. He has since retired from playing.
