Hakan Arıkan — Biography

Hakan Arıkan, born on 17 August 1982 in the Karamürsel district of Kocaeli, built a long career as a Turkish goalkeeper before retiring from the game. He started out with local side Karamürsel İdman Yurdu, then went on to play for Petkimspor and Kocaelispor, and made a name for himself at Ankaraspor by saving two penalties in a single match against Galatasaray.

Standing 1.92 metres tall, he moved to Beşiktaş in 2007, where he featured in Süper Lig, Turkish Cup and European competition and won a domestic double in the 2008-09 season. He later kept goal for Mersin İdman Yurdu, Antalyaspor, Kayserispor and Trabzonspor. He earned his first cap for Turkey's senior national team against Brazil in 2007 and went on to make four appearances for the side in total. Known for his sharp reflexes and penalty saves, he moved into work as a players' agent in 2021 after hanging up his gloves.
