Henry Turner — Biography
Henry Turner is an Oakland-born shooting guard and small forward best known in European basketball for his three seasons at Fenerbahçe and a long career in Italy. While playing for Fenerbahçe he was granted Turkish citizenship and played in Turkey under the name Hakkı Uzun. When he retired in 2002 at the age of 36 he stayed close to the game, working as a TV analyst on Sacramento Kings games.
He grew up in Oakland and played college basketball at California State University, Fullerton, graduating in 1988. In the NBA he played 66 games for the Sacramento Kings across 1989-90 and 1994-95, averaging 3 points and 1 rebound. His real home was in Europe, where he played at Udine, Collado Villalba, Florence and Panionios in Athens. With Panionios he scored 30 points in the first half of a Korać Cup semi-final against PAOK, capped by a 360-degree dunk, and finished with 37, though his team lost 83-85.
At Fenerbahçe, whom he joined in 1995, he averaged 22.4, 23.1 and 17.5 points over three seasons and formed a high-scoring trio with İbrahim Kutluay and Dallas Comegys. The team reached the league play-off semi-finals, the Korać Cup quarter-finals and the last 16 of the Saporta Cup in those years. He later played for Siena, Maroussi, Montecatini, Verona and Milan.
