Hüseyin Çakıroğlu — Biography

Hüseyin Çakıroğlu (18 September 1957, Istanbul - 26 October 1986, Istanbul) was a Turkish footballer who played as a midfielder. His sweeping vision of the game and his well-timed interventions to break up opposing attacks earned him the nickname "Doktor Hüseyin" (Doctor Hüseyin).

Although he spent only two seasons at Fenerbahçe, he became strongly identified with the club and is regarded by fans and officials as one of the most important players in its history. When he moved to Gaziantepspor in the summer of 1979, the squad already contained an older namesake, Hüseyin Kalpar, so Çakıroğlu became known as "Küçük Hüseyin" (Little Hüseyin).

Capped ten times by the Turkey national team, Çakıroğlu died of cancer in 1986 at the age of 29; his sudden death caused widespread grief across Turkish football.
