İlhan Erşahin — Biography
İlhan Erşahin is a Swedish-Turkish composer, saxophonist, and jazz musician born in 1965 in Stockholm. Raised in Sweden, he has lived in New York City since 1990.
Known for his own projects and bands, including Wax Poetic, Love Trio, Our Theory, I Led Three Lives, Wonderland, and Istanbul Sessions, Erşahin opened the club Nublu on Manhattan's Lower East Side in 2002, turning it into a key meeting point for the jazz, electronica, and world-music scene. The club became especially known for its Wednesday-night Brazilian "Forró in the Dark" sessions and for the Nublu Orchestra, a project he developed with conduction pioneer Butch Morris.
Erşahin remains active today as Nublu's founder and a performing saxophonist.
