Jehan Barbur — Biography

Jehan İstiklal Barbur was born on 12 April 1980 in Beirut, Lebanon, into a family of Arab Christian descent. After studying at Bilkent University, she moved from Ankara to Istanbul in 2002 to pursue music professionally, gaining stage experience as a vocalist performing pop and jazz repertoire with various group projects.

Guided toward the label Ada Müzik by Bülent Ortaçgil, she launched her solo career with the 2009 album "Uyan." It was followed by "Hayat" (2010), "Sarı" (2012), "Sizler Hiç Yokken" (2014), and "Evim Neresi" (2017), while singles such as "Kuzgunu Uçmak," "Ürkerek Söylerim," and "İki Keklik" appeared between 2018 and 2019. Across seven studio albums, Barbur has also occasionally contributed music to films and television series.

In 2026 she released "Öncesi," a book recounting her life story, giving interviews in which she said she wanted to share what life had left her rather than what had been taken from her. She continued performing live that same year, maintaining an active presence in both music and literature.
