Kenan Işık — Biography
Yusuf Kenan Işık was born on 1 October 1947 in the Yeşilyurt district of Malatya. After studying at Ankara Atatürk High School and Gazi University, he became known as an actor, television presenter, and journalist. Beyond acting, he worked as a playwright, director, and administrator in Turkish theatre, serving as General Artistic Director of the Istanbul City Theatres from 1996 to 2000, and later worked as a news anchor for a television channel in 2005.
He appeared in television series and films including Dadı (2000), Yeşil Işık (2002), Sayın Bakanım (2004), and Belalı Baldız (2005), but reached his widest audience as the host of the Turkish version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? between 2011 and 2014. Following an accident in 2014, he remained in a coma for the following decade and died in Istanbul on 29 July 2024 at the age of 76.
In 2025, an amphitheater at Malatya Turgut Özal University was named after him in his home province, keeping his memory alive.
