Kit Harington — Biography

Christopher Catesby Harington, known professionally as Kit Harington, was born on 26 December 1986 in Acton, West London, the son of businessman and 15th baronet Sir David Harington and former playwright Deborah Catesby. After Southfield and Chantry schools and drama studies at Worcester Sixth Form College, he graduated from the Central School of Speech and Drama in 2008 and, while still a student, began his professional career in 2009 as Albert Narracott in the West End production of War Horse. He became known worldwide for playing Jon Snow in HBO's Game of Thrones (2011-2019), a role that brought him a Saturn Award nomination in 2012 and later a Golden Globe nomination and two Primetime Emmy nominations; he was also named Actor of the Year at the 2013 Young Hollywood Awards. On screen he has appeared in Pompeii, Testament of Youth and Marvel's Eternals, and voiced Eret in the How to Train Your Dragon series; he wrote, produced and starred as his own ancestor Robert Catesby in the 2017 BBC drama Gunpowder. He married co-star Rose Leslie in Scotland in 2018, and the couple had a son in 2021; in the 2020s he earned acclaim in the HBO/BBC co-production Industry, reunited with Sophie Turner in 2026's The Dreadful and made his directing debut that same year, and was announced as joining HBO's Harry Potter series as Gilderoy Lockhart.
