Kubilay Türkyılmaz — Biography
Kubilay Türkyilmaz (Turkish: Kubilay Türkyılmaz; born 4 March 1967 in Bellinzona) is a Swiss former professional footballer of Turkish descent who played as a forward. Known as "Kubi", he was noted for his speed, goalscoring instinct and skilful free kicks and corners.
At club level he played for Swiss sides such as Bellinzona, Servette, Grasshopper, Lugano, Luzern and Locarno, as well as for Bologna, Galatasaray and Brescia. Between 1988 and 2001 he scored 34 goals for the Switzerland national team, ending his international career as the joint all-time leading scorer alongside Max Abegglen — a record bettered by Alexander Frei in 2008. His only major tournament with Switzerland was Euro 1996.
Hampered by injuries, he first retired in 2001. In 2014, aged 46, he briefly returned to help Bellinzona in the sixth-tier 2. Liga, before retiring for good in 2015.
