Mactabene Amachree — Biography

Mactabene Amachree was born on 30 January 1978 in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and went on to become a professional basketball player standing 1.85 meters tall who competed on the wing. After attending Abilene Christian University, she launched a career that made history in 2001, when she became the first Nigerian ever to play in the WNBA; she is also remembered as the first Nigerian athlete to compete in Russia's national championship.

Representing Nigeria's women's national team, Amachree took part in the 2004 Summer Olympics. She holds both Nigerian and Turkish citizenship, and beyond her sporting career she is recognized as the princess of the Ojuka Clan of the Kalabari people in Nigeria.
