Mehmet Ekici — Biography

Mehmet Ekici is a former Turkish international footballer, born on 25 March 1990 in Munich, Germany, to Turkish immigrant parents, and raised in Germany. A central midfielder standing 1.80 m tall, he spent the final stretch of his career at Fenerbahçe.

Ekici started out at SpVgg Unterhaching before joining Bayern Munich's youth academy in 1997, where he spent roughly a decade coming through the club's various junior sides; he was promoted to Bayern Munich II for 2007-08 and then to the first team. Having represented Germany at every level from under-17 to under-21, he switched allegiance to Turkey in 2010 and won caps for the senior side until 2015. At club level he went on to play for Nürnberg (2010-11), Werder Bremen for three seasons following a €5 million transfer, and Trabzonspor, whom he joined for €1.5 million in 2014. After being left out of the Trabzonspor squad in early 2017 over his wish to join Fenerbahçe, he signed for the Istanbul club once the season ended.

Sports outlets reported in late 2025 and early 2026 that Ekici, who had been out of Süper Lig football for some years, had returned to playing in a lower division.
