Mehmet Gümüş — Biography

Mehmet Gümüş (born in Fatsa) is a Turkish folk music artist and composer. He graduated from the Music Department of the Gazi Education Institute (Gazi University Faculty of Music). After graduating, he was appointed as a music teacher at Fatsa High School. He was arrested in the wake of the military coup of 12 September 1980 and spent 7 years in prison. He was acquitted of all the cases against him at the Court of Cassation stage. He then returned to music and released his first album, "Gülyangını Ömrümüz", in 1990. Gümüş, who has given more than a thousand concerts to date, has also written around 150 compositions. "Mehmet Gümüş Besteleri", an album on which various artists perform his compositions, was released in 2016.
