Melih Mahmutoğlu — Biography

Melih Mahmutoğlu was born on 12 May 1990 in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul and took up basketball in the Genç Boğaziçi youth system. He joined Efes Pilsen's junior team in 1999, launched his professional career in 2006 with the club's Turkish second-division feeder side Pertevniyal, and after a loan spell at Darüşşafaka in 2008-09 returned to Efes before being released in 2010.

He signed with Galatasaray that same year, and a 2011 loan to Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi aimed at his development boosted his form; his 2012-13 season with Erdemirspor drew interest from the country's bigger clubs. Recruited to Fenerbahçe by Željko Obradović in 2013-14, Mahmutoğlu won a league and cup double in his debut season and helped the club reach its first-ever EuroLeague Final Four in 2014-15. He won the TBL All-Star three-point contest in 2016.

Having passed 1,000 career EuroLeague points in January 2025, Mahmutoğlu went on to complete a domestic-and-European treble that season, adding the Basketball Super League and Turkish Cup titles to a EuroLeague championship. Now Fenerbahçe's team captain, he extended his contract with the club for another season in July 2026.
