Mesut Uçakan — Biography

Born in 1953 in Kırıkkale, Mesut Uçakan is a Turkish director, screenwriter and producer who graduated from the Cinema and Television Department of the Istanbul Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences' School of Journalism and Public Relations. Known for films centered on national and spiritual themes, his filmography includes landmark titles such as Reis Bey, İskilipli Atıf Hoca and Yalnız Değilsiniz.

Alongside filmmaking, Uçakan has been active as a writer and publisher: after producing six issues of the magazine Mutlak Fikir Estetiği ve Sinema in 1997, he has edited the cinema magazine Sonsuzkare since 2003. He is the author of a poetry collection, Sıkı Tut Ellerimi, and a book on cinema, Türk Sinemasında İdeoloji, while a separate volume of interviews conducted by Necip Tosun, Mesut Uçakan'la Söyleşiler, has been published about him.

In 2026 he has been shooting a new film, Sonsuz Güzel, in Ahlat, telling a story about a young person's search for meaning through a modern dervish figure.
