Murat Onur — Biography

Murat Önür is a Turkish retired footballer born on 15 February 1981 in the Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş. He began his career in Çanakkale Dardanelspor's youth system, signing a professional contract with the club in 1997 and joining the first-team squad, a path that drew early attention from Turkey's youth national teams. His only competitive first-team appearance came on 10 May 1998 in a Süper Lig match against Beşiktaş; for a long stretch afterwards he mostly featured for the club's reserve (A2) side. From the 2000-01 season he became a regular starter, and went on to spend a full nine seasons with Çanakkale Dardanelspor, an unusually long single-club run by the standards of Turkish league football.

After Dardanelspor finished bottom of the 2005-06 First League and was relegated, Önür left and went on to play for Mardinspor, Diyarbakırspor, Eskişehirspor, Boluspor and Denizlispor. While at Diyarbakırspor he reached the First League play-off semi-final, where the team was eliminated on penalties by Eskişehirspor; he then signed for Eskişehirspor itself and spent two Süper Lig seasons there. At youth international level, he was called up 23 times and made a combined 15 appearances for Turkey's U-17 and U-18 sides, scoring one goal.
