Murat Yakın — Biography
Murat Yakin (born 15 September 1974 in Basel) is a Swiss football coach and former player of Turkish descent. As a player he featured as a defender for clubs including 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Fenerbahçe, Basel, Stuttgart and Grasshopper; his brother Hakan Yakin also had a professional football career.
In coaching, Yakin led Swiss clubs Basel, Grasshoppers and Sion, and managed Russian side Spartak Moscow during the 2014-15 season, before being appointed head coach of the Switzerland national team in August 2021. Under his guidance, Switzerland qualified for the 2022 World Cup, UEFA Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup, and at the latter he steered the team to the quarterfinals for the first time in 72 years before being eliminated by Argentina.
