Neşe Karaböcek — Biography
Neşe Karaböcek (real name Neşecan Göktürk; born 1 April 1947 in Yeşilköy, Istanbul) is a Turkish singer and actress. She is counted among the foremost interpreters of Turkish arabesque, a style blending traditional Turkish music with international influences, and is widely nicknamed the "mother of arabesque." Born to a railway employee father and a homemaker mother, she spent her childhood between Ankara and Istanbul and studied at the Ankara State Conservatory. She received the surname "Karaböcek" after appearing on stage in a play at the age of five. Her first record, "Artık Sevmeyeceğim," brought her fame, and she stayed popular into the mid-1990s. Across a career of roughly six decades she released more than fifty albums; "Yalı Yalı," "Çayelinden Öteye," "Ateş Benim Kül Benim," "Hatıralar," "İntizar" and "Silemediler" rank among her signature songs. Between 1968 and 1980 she collected numerous gold and platinum discs plus golden cassette awards, and in 1981 she established her own label, Altın Plak. She also appeared in many Yeşilçam productions, including "Aşk Sepeti," "İntizar," "Sevda Yolu," "Kısmet" and "Almanya'da Bir Türk Kızı." She is the elder sister of singer Gülden Karaböcek.
