Neyyire Neyir — Biography
Neyyire Neyir, born Münire Eyüp, was born in 1902 in the Fatih district of Istanbul. She is regarded as one of the first Muslim-born actresses in Turkish cinema, making her screen debut in 1923 as Kezban in Ateşten Gömlek.
Active in both theater and film, she also worked as an art writer during her career and is remembered for her role in the 1929 film Ankara Postası. She married Muhsin Ertuğrul, a pioneering figure of Turkish theater and cinema, taking the name Münire Eyüp Ertuğrul and becoming known in artistic circles through this union as well.
Neyyire Neyir died in Istanbul on February 13, 1943, and is remembered as one of the pioneering women of early Turkish cinema.
