Niyazi Serdar Sarıçiftçi — Biography
Niyazi Serdar Sarıçiftçi was born in 1961 in Konya, Turkey, and went on to study at the University of Vienna. He is now recognized as a Turkish-Austrian physicist who holds a professorship in physical chemistry at Johannes Kepler University (JKU) in Linz, where he heads both the Institute of Physical Chemistry and the Institute for Organic Solar Cells (LIOS), a research center focused on organic photovoltaic technology.
His scientific contributions have earned him international recognition, including Austria's prestigious Wittgenstein Prize and the Kardinal Innitzer Prize. He has also been honored in Turkey with the Selçuk Yaşar Award and the TÜBA Academy Award, and has been named among the "100 Turks who shaped the science of chemistry." Beyond his academic career, he is also known to pursue music.
