Oğuzhan Özyakup — Biography
Oğuzhan Özyakup, born on 23 September 1992 in Zaandam, Netherlands, is a Dutch-born Turkish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He came through the AZ Alkmaar academy before moving to Arsenal, where he won the Premier Academy League in 2008–09 and 2009–10 and the FA Youth Cup in 2008–09.
Joining Beşiktaş in 2012, Özyakup won the Süper Lig title with the club in the 2015–16 and 2016–17 seasons and, over time, served as team captain. He transferred to Fortuna Sittard in 2022 and announced his retirement from professional football in the summer of 2024, at the age of 31.
At international level, Özyakup captained the Netherlands at U-17 and U-19 before switching allegiance to Turkey in 2012, going on to earn 7 caps and score twice for the Turkish U-21 side. He made his senior debut for Turkey in 2013, was part of the squad at UEFA Euro 2016, and won 42 caps with one goal for the national team.
