Özgül Kavruk — Biography

Stern, cold-hearted characters in television series of the 2000s are what Turkish actress Özgül Kavruk is best remembered for playing. A former model, she reached a wide audience as Beray in Parmaklıklar Ardında, and the press at times labelled her, together with her role in Doktorlar, the “bad woman” of television dramas. In later years she stepped away from acting and moved into a different field; the press kept recalling her years afterwards as a once much-discussed actress, and in 2023 she spoke in an interview about how her life had changed.

She began her working life as a model in Izmir. Her acting career started in 2000 with Derman Bey, and a year later she appeared in Böyle mi Olacaktı on atv. In Gurbet Kadını (2003) she played Zeliha; Nehir followed in 2005 and Rüyalarda Buluşuruz in 2006. In 2007 she took a role in Doktorlar and was a guest in Arka Sokaklar, and Parmaklıklar Ardında came after that. Kızım Nerede? (2011) and Sakarya Fırat (2012) came later, and the last production in her filmography is Sen Benimsin (2015), in which she played Cemile Yenilmez.

She comes from a family of educators: her father was once principal of Söke High School and her mother is a retired teacher. She married in 2008.
