Rüştü Reçber — Biography

Rüştü Reçber (born 10 May 1973 in Korkuteli, Antalya) is widely regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers in Turkish football history. Standing 1.86 m tall, he played at club level for Antalyaspor, Fenerbahçe, Barcelona and Beşiktaş over the course of his career.

For the national team, he made his debut against Iceland in 1994 and played his final match against Finland in 2012, amassing 120 caps to become Turkey's most-capped player. He was part of the squad that finished third at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, a run that saw him named to the tournament's all-star team, and he was voted Europe's best goalkeeper that year as part of the UEFA Team of the Year. He also represented Turkey at UEFA Euro 2008, and in 2004 Pelé included him on the FIFA 100 list of the greatest living footballers.

Since retiring, Reçber has worked as a television football pundit, regularly commenting on transfer news and current developments in the sport. His son Burak Reçber has likewise pursued a professional football career, coming through Galatasaray's youth system before turning professional.
