Sema Meray — Biography

The role of Helga Schrader, which she took over in 1998 in WDR's series Die Anrheiner and kept until 2003, introduced Sema Meray to German audiences. Born in Mersin and raised in Germany, she is an actress and author who works across television, theatre and writing. In later years she played Aunt Hatice in Lindenstraße and had a recurring role in In aller Freundschaft.

Her screen career began in 1997 with Unter uns. After Die Anrheiner she appeared often in German television series and films: Tatort – Schützlinge (2002), Die Sitte – Flüstertöne (2003), Cologne P.D. – Tod am Bau (2004), Stolberg – Bei Anruf Mord and Tatort – Schmale Schultern (both 2010). In aller Freundschaft ran for her from 2005 to 2011 and Lindenstraße from 2006 to 2011; in 2008 she acted in the film Evet, ich will!, and in 2014-2015 she appeared in Rote Rosen.

Besides acting she writes, performs on stage and works in dubbing. In February 2008 she took part, with Vedat Erincin, in the play Wegen der Ehre at the Freie Werkstatt of the Kölner Theater in Cologne, directed by Till Rickelt, and her daughter also had a role in the production. She also supports the preservation of the Mor Gabriel Monastery in Turkey. In early 2014 she married Hubertus Prinz zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg.
