Serkan Şahin — Biography

Serkan Şahin was born on 15 February 1988 in Basel, Switzerland. After starting out with a local youth club, he joined FC Basel's academy; in the 2005-06 season he was loaned to third-tier side SC Dornach before returning to Basel's under-21 squad, where he became a regular.

He was promoted to Basel's first team during the 2008-09 season under head coach Christian Gross, making his league debut on 15 February 2009 in a goalless draw with Grasshopper Club. He also featured in the Europa League, and in the 2009-10 season won the domestic double with Basel, taking both the Swiss Super League title and the Swiss Cup. That same year he chose to represent Turkey rather than Switzerland internationally and played for Turkey's under-21 side.

In June 2010 he moved to Konyaspor, joining the Turkish Süper Lig, and picked up a second-tier play-off championship in 2013 during his time in Turkey. He transferred to second-division club Fethiyespor in January 2014, returned to Switzerland in January 2015 to join third-tier side BSC Old Boys, and retired from active football in the summer of 2019.
