Sinan Özen — Biography

Turkish singer and composer Sinan Özen has been active since 1989, and his songs are known to a wide audience. Described as a folk music artist, he has also worked as an actor and television presenter. He keeps performing live and in summer 2026 played concerts in several places, including towns in Muğla.

Born in the Çayeli district of Rize, Özen spent part of his childhood in İzmit and then grew up in Istanbul with his family. He attended a vocational high school in Rize, in the lathe department, but his passion for music won out. In 1981 he won a newspaper's singing contest yet received no offers; he took lessons in notation, solfège and oud from Süheyla Altmışdört and İrfan Özbakır, and in 1982 entered the Istanbul State Conservatory. His professional career opened in 1989 with the album Rüyalarım Olmasa, whose songs "Öpsene Beni", "Ölürüm Yoluna", "Sigaramın Dumanı Sen" and "Evlere Şenlik" made him known quickly. In 1998 he moved to Akbak Plakçılık and released Tek Başına, Serseri Gönlüm, Gitsem Uzaklara and Islak Islak; Ödün Vermem (2007) came out on his own label.

Between 1989 and 2016 he released 17 albums and five singles. In later years he has mostly put out singles; the video for "Sevişmeliyiz" (2015) was shot in Batumi, and in the 2020s he released songs such as "Zor Sevdam", "Suç Mahallini" and "Dünyanın Göbeği".
