Tarık Mengüç — Biography

Tarık Mengüç was born in 1972 in Istanbul. Of Roma origin, he has become known for promoting Roma culture through his music. Before entering the music business he sang at weddings and worked in furniture, ceramics and lighters.

He gained recognition with his 2004 album Şakşuka, and went on to compose songs for other artists, including Sibel Can's Hey Adamım, Seda Sayan's Ben Sana Demedim Mi?, Davut Güloğlu's Katula Katula, and Ayça Tekindor's Degaje and Yıkılıyor. He also worked for a time as a backing vocalist for stars such as İbrahim Tatlıses, Ebru Gündeş and İbrahim Erkal. Having released six albums to date, he competed on the Tv8 reality show Survivor, hosted by Acun Ilıcalı, in 2017.

A well-known figure in Roman music, Mengüç continues to perform at festivals; in 2026 he took the stage at the Hıdrellez and Kakava celebrations in Sarayiçi and performed with the Üsküdar Municipality Roma Orchestra.
