Teoman — Biography

Born Fazlı Teoman Yakupoğlu on 20 November 1967, the singer known professionally as Teoman is, according to some sources, actually a native of Alucra in Giresun province rather than Istanbul, as long assumed. He began his higher education in business administration and mathematics at Boğaziçi University before switching to sociology, later completing a graduate degree in women's studies at Istanbul University.

He entered the music scene in 1986 with his first band, Mirage, and spent a decade performing with various acts before breaking through with "Ne Ekmek Ne de Su," which took first prize at the Roxy Music Days. Going solo in 1997, Teoman built a reputation as one of Turkey's leading rock voices with a melancholic, largely acoustic sound. After briefly quitting music in 2011, he returned the following year and kept recording until 2023, when he released the cover album Aşık Bir Adam and the studio album Ben, Zargana, Deus Ex Machina, announcing that these twelve studio records would close out his discography.

Beyond music, Teoman has taken on acting roles in films such as Mumya Firarda and Romantik, and both performed in and scored Balance and Movement. As of summer 2026 he remains active on stage, with concert dates in cities including Kaş and Giresun.
