Tınaz Tırpan — Biography

Tınaz Tırpan, born 28 April 1939 in Ankara, is a former Turkish footballer who went on to have a long career as a coach. Having come up through Fenerbahçe's youth ranks, he played as a senior for Fenerbahçe and several Anatolian clubs before moving into management.

Tırpan was appointed head coach of the Turkey national team in 1988, succeeding Mustafa Denizli, and took charge of his first match on 16 March 1988, a 1-0 away defeat to Hungary. Turkey came close to reaching the 1990 World Cup under him, missing out only after a 2-0 defeat to the Soviet Union in the decisive qualifier.

After leaving the national team, Tırpan had a brief spell in charge of Fenerbahçe before later coaching Kayserispor and MKE Ankaragücü, guiding Ankaragücü to UEFA Cup qualification in the 1999-2000 season. In 2002 he took charge of Bucheon SK in South Korea, a post he held for only one season amid poor results.
