Alemdar Mustafa pasha (Alemdar Mustafa Paşa)

Alemdar Mustafa Pasha is a 1918 Ottoman film project written and directed by Sedat Simavi and produced by the Müdâfaa-i Milliye Cemiyeti. Adapted from Celal Esat Arseven and Salah Cimcoz's play "Sultan Selim-i Sâlis," it deals with the Alemdar Incident, regarded at the time as a glorious page in history, with Burhanettin Tepsi playing the central character Mustafa. As far as can be determined, it is considered the first attempt at a historical film in Turkish cinema.

The film's ultimate fate remains unknown. After the Ottoman defeat in World War I and the occupation of Istanbul, some sources say shooting was never finished, while others report that the Society's documents and films were seized before editing could be completed, causing the film to be lost. During production, Temaşa magazine voiced concern that poorly made films about historical figures could damage the dignity of the Turkish people.
