America Square (Amerika Square) (translated)

Amerika Square (Plateia Amerikis) is a 2016 Greek drama film directed by Yannis Sakaridis. Based on Yannis Tsirbas's novella 'I Victoria Den Yparhi', the screenplay was co-written by Sakaridis together with Vangelis Mourikis and Tsirbas. The film was selected as Greece's entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards, though it was not nominated.

Named after an Athens neighborhood transformed by migration, the film follows the crossing paths of Nakos, an ordinary racist; Billy, a tattoo artist; and Tarek, a Syrian refugee doctor. Set in a city overshadowed by economic crisis, these three intertwined stories explore questions of identity and belonging in contemporary Greece. The 86-minute film features Giannis Stankoglou, Makis Papadimitriou, Themis Bazaka, and Vassilis Koukalani among its cast.
