Black City

Black City, originally titled Il re di Poggioreale, is a 1961 Italian comedy-drama film directed by Duilio Coletti. The story draws on the real life of Peppino Navarra, a well-known figure of the camorra criminal underworld.

The film stars American actors Ernest Borgnine and Keenan Wynn, with Guido Celano, Yvonne Sanson, Salvo Randone, David Opatoshu and Aldo Giuffrè also in the cast. Coletti co-wrote the screenplay with American writer John Fante and produced the picture together with Dino De Laurentiis, while Carlo Savina composed the score. Running 113 minutes, it stands among the Italian productions that blend crime storytelling with touches of humor.
