Movie · 1994 · 2 people

Le Colonel Chabert (Colonel Chabert) is a 1994 French film directed by Yves Angelo. Described as a historical drama, it also carries elements of romance and war. It is the sixth screen adaptation of Honoré de Balzac's work of the same name. Made in French, it runs 110 minutes and is known in Brazil as Coronel Chabert - Amor e Mentiras and in Germany as Die Auferstehung des Colonel Chabert.

The three principal players are Gérard Depardieu, Fanny Ardant and Fabrice Luchini. They are joined by Éric Elmosnino, Albert Delpy, André Dussollier, Claude Rich, Daniel Prévost, Jacky Nercessian, Julie Depardieu, Maxime Leroux and Romane Bohringer.

Angelo, Cosmos and Véronique Lagrange wrote the screenplay together. Critics received the film warmly, and it was nominated in six categories at the César Awards. Balzac's story had reached the screen before: an earlier adaptation starring Raimu was released roughly fifty years earlier, during the German occupation of France.
