Der Schuh des Manitu

Der Schuh des Manitu is a 2001 German Western parody written and directed by Michael Herbig, who stars alongside Christian Tramitz. Distributed by Constantin Film, it adapts the Winnetou sketches from Herbig's ProSieben television show Bullyparade. The plot follows the Apache chief Abahachi and his cowboy blood brother Ranger, who set out to find a legendary treasure in order to pay off a debt to the Shoshone tribe, while a band of outlaws led by Santa Maria races to seize it first. Hilmi Sözer appears in a supporting role.

Satirizing Karl May's Winnetou stories and the German Westerns of the 1960s, the film drew roughly 11.7 million cinema-goers and earned about €65 million, ranking among the most successful German films of the post-war era. A sequel, Das Kanu des Manitu, was released in 2025.
